The word spoken "gives grace to the hearers" when God uses it as His instrument for that purpose. Whether the pronoun be read or not, it must be understood (either from the "ye," Ephesians 4:4 , or from the "us," Ephesians 4:7 ); for other parts of Scripture prove that the Spirit is not "in all" men, but only in believers ( Romans 8:9 Romans 8:14 ). . The good aimed at in respect to the Church ( Ephesians 4:13 ). We now have access “in one Spirit to the father” (Eph. If we are “in Christ” then we are called to something far greater than independent free agency – in fact, we are created anew by Him as His family. Not even Paul counted himself to have fully "attained" ( Philippians 3:12-14 ). Now that we have arrived here, let’s take a sounding and make sure we have appropriate context for reading ahead through the letter. 1. Him is emphatic. What good works? Truth is the first thing: those who reach it, will at last reach unity, because truth is one; while those who seek unity as the first thing, may purchase it at the sacrifice of truth, and so of the soul itself. 26.
